How to Measure for your Hurricane Shutters

Materials Needed:

Procedure:

  1. Begin at the front door and work clockwise around, filling in the appropriate blanks on the PDF.
Helpful Hint: Number the panels when you receive them to correspond with the openings for easy reinstallation.
  2. For windows, measure horizontally from one inside edge of the window recess to the opposite side. Our website will automatically add the appropriate amount of overlap onto the wall. To measure vertically, begin at the top edge of the recess and measure down to the top of the window sill. We will also add the necessary overlap. To determine the proper build-out (the distance shutters are mounted from the surface of the wall), this build-out should be greater than the sill projection and at least 3 inches from the glass surface, whichever is greater. We offer build-outs ranging from 0 to 3 inches.
  3. For doors, measure horizontally from one inside edge of the opening to the opposite inside edge. Measure vertically from the inside edge of the top of the door to the floor. Our site will add the appropriate amount of overlap for the type of installation you select to the panels we ship.
Helpful Hint: Our PDF is set up to note the width first, followed by the height.
  4. Enter the measurements into our Buy Shutters page.
