BOCA vs. Non-BOCA Hardware
BOCA (also known as the National Building Code and International Building Code) refers to a set of standards established by the Building Officials Code Administration. BOCA hardware standards for hurricane shutters require no more than a 6" space between hardware, while non-BOCA hardware can be installed with up to a 12" space. There is no other difference between the hardware.
To determine whether you need BOCA or Non-BOCA hardware, consult your county's building code for Shutter Protection. Your hardware must comply with local regulations and be capable of withstanding the specific wind pressures outlined for your area.
